Spinal Cord Injuries

The spinal cord transmits electrical signals from the brain to the rest of the body. Injuries to the spinal cord can range from bruising of the spinal cord to the actual severing of the spinal cord. An injury to the spinal cord can restrict or eliminate that transmission to the point that a person loses some or all of the control of parts of their bodies.

Any interruption of the signals transported by the spinal cord has significant consequences. Even “minor” injuries to the spinal cord can result in pain, numbness, loss of motor control and the loss of bodily functions like the ability to properly regulate body temperature. More severe injuries can result in paralysis, loss of bladder and bowel control and other extensive limitations.

A severe spinal cord injury obviously impacts everyone in the injured person’s family. Family members become caregivers, rather than companions. The financial stresses of getting treatment can be overwhelming. Home and vehicle modifications needed to accommodate the injury victim interfere with everyone else’s convenience. Resentment and guilt often accompany such circumstances.

Through his representation of spinal cord injured individuals and their families, Aaron Woods of Woods Law KC has gained an understanding of these issues many lawyers don’t possess. He is familiar with treatment facilities and the care needed to make the best possible recovery. Aaron is also familiar with the process of life care planning needed to fully account for the lifetime needs of the injured person, which is a necessary component of obtaining a full and fair recovery. Aaron understands that the money gained through a lawsuit can never replace what has been lost as a result of a spinal cord injury, but he strives to do all he can to obtain a recovery that will enable the highest possible level of enjoyment of life in the wake of such a catastrophic injury.
