Have a Brain Injury Due to an Accident?

Accidents are difficult for everyone, but they can be devastating if you received a brain injury due to an accident. In fact, your life can dramatically change when you suffer from a traumatic brain injury.

The tricky part of traumatic brain injuries is that they don’t look the same for everyone. You may not immediately know that you have a brain injury since the symptoms may not show up for days, weeks, or months after the accident.

The symptoms vary widely as well. They can include:

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Feeling dazed, confused or disoriented
  • Headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Fatigue or drowsiness
  • Problems with speech
  • Change in sleep patterns
  • Dizziness or loss of balance
  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Having a bad taste in the mouth
  • Inability to smell
  • Sensitivity to light or sound
  • Problems concentrating
  • Mood swings
  • Feeling depressed or anxious
  • Convulsions or seizures
  • Dilation of pupils
  • Clear fluids draining from the nose or ears
  • Weakness or numbness in fingers and toes
  • Loss of coordination
  • Agitation, combativeness, or other unusual behavior
  • Slurred speech

As you can see, some of the signs of a traumatic brain injury are obvious. In contrast, others, particularly symptoms that affect behavior, mood, or sleep patterns, may be difficult to determine. That’s why if you are the victim of an accident, you should always get checked out by a medical professional.
