4 Springtime Safety Tips from a Personal Injury Lawyer

By the time you read this, we hope that we are experiencing spring-like weather in Kansas City. While we may have had a late start to spring, you can’t beat a glorious spring day in the Midwest.

Unfortunately, those warmer temperatures and “spring fever” often cause people to participate in more reckless behavior. Here are some safety tips to consider from Kansas City’s premier personal injury attorney.

1. Watch your children.

Experienced grade school teachers notice an uptick in the number of kids walking around with casts during the spring. These broken bones result from accidents that occur when children are playing outside. Even though “accidents happen,” encourage your children to stay safe by wearing helmets and knee pads.

You can’t wrap your children in bubble wrap, but you can prioritize safety in your home. For example, make sure the kids’ bikes are tuned up and have working brakes. And, of course, always wait to drive until everyone in the car is buckled.

2. Watch for Children

Even if you don’t have children of your own to fret over, please try to be more aware of the children in your neighborhood as the weather gets warmer. Watch for children as you back out of your driveway. Additionally, watch for distracted teen drivers, and learn to drive defensively to reduce the likelihood of a crash.

3. Prepare for your night out.

We are all ready to get out when warmer weather comes to the Midwest. But, if you think you might be drinking when going out for a night on the town, make sure you have a designated driver. It just takes one night of poor decision-making to cause an accident that may affect you for the rest of your life.

4. Slow down!

We know you are excited to get outside. However, consider slowing down and enjoying the beautiful day instead of rushing through your errands and carpool responsibilities. Roll down the windows in your car and remember what it felt like when you were riding in the back seat of your mom’s car as a kid.

Distracted driving causes car accidents, but accidents also happen when driving too fast. Gas prices may be too high to take a spring road trip, but now that the cold is gone, enjoy your time on the beautiful Missouri highways and slow down!

Need a Personal Injury Attorney? We can help!

If the world was a perfect place, and there was no such thing as a drunk driver or distracted driver, there would be little need for personal injury attorneys. However, the reality is that people are sometimes injured by no fault of their own.

If you or a loved one suffered injuries from a collision or another type of accident, consider scheduling a free consultation with a highly respected area attorney, such as Woods Law KC. Aaron Woods of Woods Law has been serving citizens of the KC Metro for decades.

Winter is over, Kansas City! Enjoy your spring! But be careful!
